16 Nov Welcome to the Golden Egg blog
At the Golden Egg Academy we aim to provide an holistic approach to the task of getting manuscripts ready for the eyes of publishers and agents. To that end, we will be working hard not just to develop your manuscripts but to understand you as writers, as it is our belief that your text is only half the story, your creative mind the other half. In addition, we hope to develop a sense of community between editors and writers, something in which we passionately believe.
This blog is one way for us to keep you involved in our work and the exciting things we are up to. It will be updated on a regular basis and will include writing tips from editors, interviews with new and established authors, and discussions based around news items from the publishing world.
Writing can be a very lonely occupation, so it’s always good to feel you have people to talk to. You can keep in contact with us through the blog, or through our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GoldenEggWorkshopsForChildrensWriters), and you can follow Imogen and Vanessa on Twitter. There is so much more to writing a book than just putting words on a page, particularly when writing for children. Good stories, which give a young person the chance to escape into a new world and try on different identities, are reliant on good writing. And to be a good writer, you need to understand your story from the inside out and know what lies at its heart. This is what the Golden Egg Academy, and this blog, are all about.
As Philip Pullman stated: ‘Thou shalt not is soon forgotten, but Once upon a time lasts for ever.’ (Carnegie Medal acceptance speech: http://www.randomhouse.com/features/pullman/author/carnegie)
Come and visit us on a regular basis and be part of our community. We can’t wait to hear from you!
