Nigel worked as a designer in children’s publishing at Random House and Hodder before starting his freelance career as an illustrator. He has illustrated around one hundred titles including Spud Goes Green (Egmont) which won the Blue Peter Best Book of Facts. After completing a Masters in Authorial Illustration at Falmouth Nigel refocussed on writing and illustrating particularly with graphic novels and their unique ability to show as well as tell.
He has had two fiction graphic novels published, A Tricky Kind of Magic (Hodder) was shortlisted for the Shropshire Book Award, and The Memory Key (Hodder) was shortlisted for the Leeds Book Award. Still working as a designer and illustrator the diversity of his experience means he is well placed to talk about the industry from both sides. Despite all this he still fears he will be most remembered for performing stand up to a room in complete silence, or if not that, then knocking himself unconscious whilst celebrating his team scoring a goal.
