Mel Darbon

Founder

Mel Darbon is a graduate of the MA in Creative Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University and later became an Associate Lecturer on the course. In addition, she is a freelance editor working with a wide range of voices and ages, with a special interest in diversity and inclusion.

During her childhood, Mel spent many car journeys telling stories to her younger brother, with severe learning disabilities, to help keep him occupied. He inspired her to write books that give a voice to those who otherwise might not be heard. She is now a multi-award-winning author and the first children’s writer to have a protagonist with Down syndrome.

Mel is excited to be one of the editors supporting Writing for Children and Young Adults for the Golden Egg Academy.

Now living with her family high on a hill in historic Bradford on Avon, Mel is inspired by her view of the Saxon church where the swifts return every year to nest and the Peregrine Falcons swoop and dive over the river.
