How To Be A Picture Book Writer

A comprehensive and interactive short course in writing successful children’s picture book texts, run by picture book industry editor, Clare Whitston and created in collaboration with industry editor and picture book mentor, Jo Collins.

What’s Included?

  • 3 hours of live, interactive webinars, during which Clare Whitston will share publishing industry insights and you will get the chance to ask questions. (worth £360 of editorial time).
  • Over 1 hour of videos, where Jo Collins (Director of Picture Books) and Clare Whitston will talk you through each stage of writing a picture book. We’ll use published picture books by best-selling authors to explain the tricks and techniques you can explore in your own writing. (worth £180 of editorial time).
  • One workbook module per week over four weeks, each examining a different aspect of picture book storytelling.
  • Each module, full of advice based on Clare Whitston and Jo Collin’s many years of experience in the picture book publishing industry, includes notes on the week’s topic, exercises to improve your writing, and a weekly assignment. These are self-guided assignments to be completed in your own time.
  • A private Facebook group in which you can ask Clare questions about the course, gain support, and share your journey with your peers.
  • NEW! An end of course masterclass with Jo Collins (Director of  Picture Books). Jo will discuss where the publishing industry is now and what publishers are looking for.
